Protecting Little Lungs: Innovative Flu Clinics at the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network.

The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN) has launched new influenza vaccination
clinics, supported by the integrated technology of Consultmed’s digital referral system and
HotHealth’s appointment booking platform. These clinics, located at Sydney Children’s
Hospital, Randwick, and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, cater to children aged six
months and above, young people, and family members up to 65 years old.

Following its successful rollout last year to support flu vaccinations, the community
vaccination programme has been extended this year. In the past month, SCHN has
immunised several hundred children against the flu, thanks to the efficient deployment of
the online influenza referral and appointment booking system.

Consultmed CEO and paediatric respiratory specialist, Associate Professor Vikram Palit,
emphasised the importance of referrals to the children’s hospitals for flu vaccinations. He
noted that they are particularly suitable for patients needing assistance with vaccinations,
those with co-morbidities such as suppressed immune systems, or individuals who have
experienced adverse side effects from previous vaccinations and require additional
observation or support.

The HotHealth platform, developed by ASX-listed health IT vendor Global Health, plays a
crucial role in this initiative by providing a seamless appointment booking solution. This
platform is also being adopted by Woolworths to support its new HealthyLife initiative.
Associate Professor Palit remarked, “As a paediatric respiratory specialist, ensuring the
success of a flu vaccination appointment booking system for the Sydney Children’s Hospitals
Network was our top priority at Consultmed and Global Health. This initiative represents our
commitment to protecting young lungs and making flu vaccinations easily accessible for
children across NSW Health.”
